A HUGE thanks to everyone at this past Saturday's show at the Joyful Noise Coffeehouse for making my 29th birthday spectacular (especially to the lovely woman who brought me the "Chocolate Orgasm" cake...wow)! It felt like the largest birthday party I have ever had, especially as I have never had 375 people sing Happy Birthday to me prior (and you should very proud of the six part harmony...I was VERY impressed). The shows with Richard Shindell have been the best I have done in my life and you all have been such a welcoming audience. Thank you!

Ok, here is the even bigger section of gratitude:

* A huge thank you to Dave Baxter of the Westport Police for taking the time to try to help me find the Westport Arts Center. He really went above and beyond the call of duty in calling around the community to find the venue for this artist.
* I don't even know how to begin to thank Donald Johnson of the New York State Police for being perhaps the kindest law officer I have ever met (aside from Dave Baxter) and for helping me get to the Middletown Mansion Series concert not only on time, but in my own vehicle. I hope I didn't frighten you when I burst into tears! :-)

Last night I was treated to a birthday party from the wonderful folks of Northampton, during which Katryna Nields sang showtunes from Godspell and Ben Demerath demonstrated what it feels like to be bound up on stage. I feel so full of affection for this community, it's almost overwhelming. As a post note, I did, indeed, have the creme brule and the chocolate mousse.

I have been writing new songs through out the last month and I will be performing them more and more as the fall comes on. I hope to see your lovely faces some where soon. Let's hear it for post season baseball!

How It Comes to This

come quick the fire's dead
ashen pale from a coal hot red
"this is how it goes out," you said

shut my eyes and squeeze them tight
pace myself with a fond goodnight
and hope against hope that I'll be alright

how it comes to this?
a sorry ending from that first promising kiss
you don't always receive the equal measure of what you spend
I am homeward bound again

ride out of town on a narrow gauge rail
you send me letters through the US mail
with flower stamps you leave a post mark trail

and every passage hurts like hell
try to prove ourselves worthy through the stories we tell
convince each other that it's just as well

how it comes to this?
a sorry ending from that first beautiful kiss
you don't always receive the equal measure of what you spend
I am homeward bound again

I catch your voice cross the telephone
you just couldn't leave well enough alone
you add insult to injury and then a dial tone

I guess I could be spitting mad
tear through the house burning what we had
but I won't feel better, no I won't feel that

how it comes to this?
there's no sadder ending than that last farewell kiss
you don't always receive the equal measure of what you spend
I am homeward bound again
