I. SALUTATIONS
October 3, 2007
Hello lovelies!
I am typing this from the Best Western in Dubuque, IA where Jenny and I spent the night after performing at Isabella’s. After a long day of steam and rain, morning arrived clear and cool across this river city. The tour has been pure joy to date, as we’ve been able to drive the midwest on some smaller, two lanes roads instead of the interstate. 183 north from Hays, KS to Elm Creek, NE put on a beautiful Kansas display with white charolais cattle pastures, slow nodding oil pumps, and great herds of antelope. Outside of Alma, Nebraska, at Harlan County Lake, we drove across a native wetlands restoration area dotted with snowy egrets and blue herons. It’s fantastic to see individual towns doing what they can to restore the natural order of things. It bodes well for both the indigenous wildlife and the midwest water table.

We’ll be in Fort Atkinson, WI this evening at Cafe Carpe (a show added after the last e-newsletter) and then on towards the heart of the midwest. Chicago here we come (should I root for the Cubs after all?!?).

I hope this finds you and your loved ones very, very well. Thanks for so warmly welcoming me back out on the road. It has been such a pleasure getting to see you again!
xo
Beth

III. THINGS I LOVE
Music: Sirius Radio’s channel The Bridge. Mellow, acoustic 70’s rock that was the soundtrack to my childhood.
Books: The History of Love, Nicole Krauss. Tom Plant and Dawn Dennison, formerly of Acoustic Coffeehouse, gave this to me for my birthday. Beautiful!
TV: Mad Men on the AMC channel. This perfectly, with extraordinary attention to detail, recounts the advertising world of 1960 without the haze of maudlin nostalgia. I am totally addicted.
